Classes and Workshops

The Guild runs short classes or workshops on a regular basis. You can attend a class/workshop at almost anytime except at Christmas.
Classes usually run for a few hours or up to one day whereas workshops run from one to a few days.
If you cannot see a class or workshop that appeals to you please Contact Us and register your interest. If there are enough people interested then a class will be created. Alternatively you can gather a minimum of 8 of your friends and have your very own designed and tailored embroidery class. This is a great way to spend a day or two with your friends whilst creating something beautiful at the same time.

Please read the Class or Workshop Policy before enrolling.

Shimmering Metals Nuihaku Technique

 Tutor/Convenor: Doris Gordon

 Fees for Members: $110
 Fees for Non Members: $132

Make a miniature to medium embroidered article using a very old Japanese technique called Nuihaku, where gold or silver leaf is applied to a fine fabric such as silk, very fine linen or cotton using rice glue. Other adhesive and foil techniques will be considered as well.
Embellishing Nuihaku with coloured and fine metal threads will enhance the design and enable you to create your own reflective and shimmering embroidery.
Small components can be developed into several larger shapes to make a trinket or wall hanging or a simple box top or brooch.

A New Christmas Tree Decoration for 2010.
Over the last few years I have created a collection of cream and gold Christmas tree decorations. This year it is a winged dove embroidered in “Antique Ivory” silk ribbon, gold metallic and silk threads as well as tiny gold beads, palest apricot and mother-of-pearl sequins. The year is stitched on the breast.
There will be a kit including a colour copy and notes for those doing the class. You will need to purchase and prepare your ivory silk dupion beforehand. Detailed preparation notes will be available.

Drawstring Bag with Greek Birds

Using birds from traditional Greek embroideries and the techniques with which they were embroidered, Alison has designed a pretty, foursided drawstring bag with the colourful birds worked around the edge with a combination of
pattern darning and surface stitchery embroidery.
This workshop is a fun use of colour, texture and stitch and it is ideal for beginner and newcomers to surface stitchery embroidery wanting to extend their skills.

Beads in jewel colours specially chosen for this workshop will be available for sale.

Come along and share your apron story while making a new memory.  I remember embroidering an apron for my Nana when I was in primary school and many of you will have a special memory about your aprons too.
Make Cinderella’s chatelaine and apron for a gift (Christmas is coming!), or for you to hang in your workroom ready to use while embroidering your next project.  You can learn to paint on fabric or just embroider the small designs in your favourite stitches, or learn some new ones while putting together these embroidery tool bags to suit your needs.  You may have a special keepsake to add.
