Correspondence Courses
We have a number of Correspondence Courses available for those who live in remote areas or simply unable or too busy to attend courses at Guild Headquarters.
All students must be financial members of the Guild during the full period of the particular course undertaken.
Creative Correspondence Course

This very popular and widely tested course in Creative Embroidery conducted by correspondence only, covering Stitches and Colour & Design, is based on the course established by the late Pat Langford to help students develop their own sense of colour & design, with particular consideration for those who do not find it easy to attend classes and are unable to meet with other embroiderers to share their passion.
The course runs from February to September each year, with lessons being posted out to students on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, with a total of 8 lessons per year. Lessons are to be completed by the student each month and returned to Headquarters for comment and guidance. The complete course runs for 3 years, with students advancing from Level 1 to Level 3 over that period. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to those students who successfully complete all levels of the course, within the set period of the course.
Materials and threads and cost of outgoing postage to the student are all included, at a cost of $200.00 per year.
Closing date for enrolments is 31st January, 2010.

Journey through Colour and Stitch
This course comprises 2 separate modules, one exploring tonal values and the other colour. Each module can be prchased at any time during the year and an assessment will be given if a module is completeed within 6 months of purchase date. Practical stitch assignments are included in each module.
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded after completion of both modules, within the set period.
Home Study Course Traditional Techniques - Crewel Embroidery
This is a Correspondence Course in the technique of crewel embroidery (surface stitchery), comprising 8 separate modules which can be purchased at any time during the year. The course is designed for those with basic to intermediate experience.
You will learn the techniques of traditional crewel embroidery and variations by stitching designs adapted from historical sources, while learning about appropriate fabrics, yarns and equipment.
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded after completion of all eight modules.
Silk Ribbon Embroidery Correspondence Course
This is a course for beginners, learning stitches and techniques for working with delicate silk ribbons. The course consists of 4 modules, which can be purchased at any time during the year, and an assessment will be given if the module is completed within six months of purchase date.
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded after completion of all 4 modules.
Creative Canvas Embroidery Course
This is a course for embroiderers of all levels, exploring colour and design and stitch on a painted canvas, and experimenting further with surface treatment and manupulation. This is a 1 year course of 4 lessons in total.
Cost of materials and threads are not included in the price. Kits can be purchased from 'The Threaded Needle' (our Guild shop for all your embroidery supplies).
Practical Teaching Skills Course
This can be run as a face to face course or as a correspondence course.
this Course is designed to train students in the art of teaching. the aim of this course is to introduce prospective teachers of the gentle arts to the fundamental skills of teaching. Lessons will cover - Copyright, Ethics, Communication and Teaching Skills, Visual Aids, Marketing/Brochure writing, Resume/Profile writing, lesson Planning, Lesson Presentation, Evaluation, Portfolio Development, Preparation Presentation, Evaluation of a Micro Lesson. The course commences in February of a given year and is conducted over a nine month period.
Judges Accreditation Course
The Guild offers accreditation for those interested in developing skills as a professional Judge of the needle arts.
