Basic Course: An Introduction to Embroidery

Duration 2 years (February-October each year, excluding July)
Attendance 1 five-hour day per month for 8 months per year
Fees $395/year, payable in advance by 9th Dec 2011. No part year enrolments.
Enrolments for Year 1 and 2 for 2012  are now open!

This is a BASIC embroidery course with an emphasis on stitches and techniques - no experience is required. It introduces students to a wide variety of techniques and their historical context.

Class attendance is from 9.30am to 3.15pm on the first Saturday of each month during term, with a 45 minute break for lunch, library time and shopping at the Threaded Needle.

Students will be required to develop a resource folder that includes:

  • an introduction and history of each technique
  • examination of the fabric and threads used for each technique
  • a series of worked samplers, devised by the tutor to give an understanding of each technique
A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who successfully complete the full course within the set period of the course.
