Course Outline

The two modules in this course are available for purchase at any time during the year. Each module comes with a kit that includes course notes, fabric and threads. Assessment is included in the module cost if assignments are returned within six months of purchase.

Module 1
It’s all about tonal values!  A recognition of tonal values is vital in understanding colour and this module offers a series of exercises in the form of assignments on paper and stitching on fabric.

Stitch assignments, with full stitch instructions, using black, white and shades of grey threads on black and white background fabrics are a practical way of reinforcing understanding of tonal values while creating unexpected textures and effects with familiar and unfamiliar surface stitches.  Create a valuable reference tool and learn about a vital area of understanding colour.

This module is aimed at introducing and enhancing knowledge of the effect of tonal values in relation to each other and on different values of backgrounds, experimenting and experiencing the way different stitches impact on the surface of the fabric and the textures and patterns they create.

Module 2
It’s all about colour!  We all practice design and colour every day by making decisions based on what we know and what we naturally like.

This module is aimed at introducing and enhancing knowledge of colour to include the 12 part colour wheel, colour biases, colour compositions and the elements of design and perspective. It provides knowledge anchored in practical assignments such as worksheets and stitching on fabric.

Practical stitch assignments include a colour wheel and colour compositions in stitch to stimulate and challenge your personal sense of colour and style.
