The Greek Dodecanese islands are in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey.  The islands have a rich tradition of embroidery and one of the most spectacular items is the bed tent known as a sperveri.  The tent is made up of a number of embroidered panels.  They were made between 1700 and 1750.

Working on  unbleached 30 count linen, learn the padded Rhodian Cross stitch that was used on these large embroideries. You may choose from stranded silk or cotton, or a mixture of the two for  your work. The embroidery is made into a lined, pouch-style bag, closed with a zipper.

The workshop is suitable for embroiderers with experience of working counted thread embroidery on evenweave linen.
