A number of my students have expressed interest in making a quilt using the Khambira technique from India.

This quilt is a single bed size and is hand embroidered all over with large, carefully-placed stitches.  Traditionally Khambira work is trimmed with pompoms.

Students prepare the quilt top before the workshop – and there are only 9 pieces in this quilt.  At the workshop the quilt top will be marked up with the design before the stitching is started.

The materials used are cotton patchwork fabrics, the embroidery is worked with perlé or broder cotton and the pompoms are made with stranded cotton.  The fabrics are plain colours in your own choice of colours.

Skill level: suitable for all levels of embroiderer who have some experience of patchwork.
