I think that it is time to do another major sampler and have recently found a collection of counted thread embroidery from the 4th, 5th and 6th century from Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The sampler is a spot-style embroidery and the motifs use a number of different counted thread techniques in both orthodox and unorthodox methods. The threads are a selection of Gumnut ‘Buds’ silks, DMC Perlé 8 and 12 and Stranded Cotton in characteristic colours.  The sampler is worked on 30-count natural evenweave linen with a small appliqué of brown linen (provided with the workshop folio).  The size of the completed embroidery is approximately 21 cm x 21 cm.

Skill level: students need some experience of counted thread embroidery on linen for this workshop.  There is some preparation to be done before the workshop.
