About our Group:
The Wollongong Group was established in 1969 following a display of embroidery in 1968 at the then Wollongong Teachers College. Initially much of the early work was creative embroidery but now there is more emphasis on traditional and fine needlework techniques including Hardanger, drawn and pulled thread work, cross stitch, surface stitchery, stump work, gold work, Brazilian and machine embroidery. The friendliness and interaction between members is a feature of our Group. Small stitching groups meet monthly, weekly, in the day and at night, to provide members with additional opportunities for companionship, consultation and encouragement.
The expertise of our Group members’ ranges from not-so-experienced to award winners. Workshops on various techniques, by visiting tutors and tutors from our own members, are offered to our members on a regular basis. We also provide an extensive library for the use of our members.
The Group holds a bi-annual exhibition of works and the opportunity to sell individual embroideries.
Areas of interest are varied, though we have at least one challenge for our members during the year.
Interested embroiderers – contact our Convenor or Secretary or come along to our general meeting at Tarrawanna and/or our weekly Friday Stitching Group at Dapto.
New members and prospective members are welcome to our weekly stitching group at the Sassafras Room, Ribbonwood Community Centre, Princes Highway, Dapto every Friday (except Good Friday) from 10am - 3pm. Cost $5 covers room hire and morning tea. Bring your own lunch and mug.
Information about our other stitching groups is available from our Convenor.
