Background
I have been stitching since Primary School and on finishing High School I was fortunate to obtain an apprenticeship at a Haute Couture (Germaine Rocher) Limited. It was there that I gained a solid grounding in the finest of needlework that has remained part of my every day life.
Over the past years I have completed several courses at The Guild but without doubt the most challenging but yet rewarding was The Proficiency Course, which I gained a Pass with a Credit in Surface Stitchery in 2010.
This course gave me freedom to CREATE. I learned more in those two years than in a lifetime of stitching and I know the direction that it’s taking me.
I use both Traditional and Contemporary methods of stitching and I love experimenting with the angling of straight stitches to create a design. Many of my design inspirations come from the Art Deco period. The use of silk threads drawn from Dupion silk fabric is another method I use for embroidering.
