Background
Lorraine was introduced to hand sewing in primary school where she was encouraged by her teacher. After being motivated by the Touring Exhibition in the local library she joined the Embroiderers’ Guild NSW in 1999 where she completed the Practical Teaching Skills Course in 2000 and the Advanced Traditional Techniques Course in 2006.

Lorraine’s interest is in traditional fine Drawn Threadwork, used in combination with Whitework, to create textural contrasts and tonal values of light and shade. Through research of the history of the practice and use of these techniques has found many exquisite examples on historical articles of dress, and accessories, particularly from the Regency, Victorian and Edwardian eras. This has led develop achievable designs that incorporate the traditional techniques with the designs on articles of wear that are reminiscent of the past but also have a modern practicality of style and, ease of creation. Lorraine loves to involve students in the use of traditional techniques on modern pieces.
