Stitch-In at the Tops 2017

Friday 21 to Sunday 23 July 2017

A weekend of stitching in an idyllic setting.  This is a fund raising event for the Headquarters Building Fund held at Boronia Lodge within The Stanwell Tops Conference Centre in the NorthernIllawarra, approx. 1 hour by road south of Sydney CBD.  We are planning "Stitch-In" Number 6!  You may choose one of the two-day classes or use your weekend to work independently on your own embroidery.  The tutors will be donating their time and expertise for the workshops.

At the STCC Boronia Lodge, 12 ensuite bedrooms will be available for three students to share.  These rooms are furnished with 1 double, 1 single and 1 lower bunk bed.  There is also one bedroom with accessible bathroom which will accommodate 2 students.  All beds have a quilt and pillow and the rooms have heating.  Bed linen and towels are to be supplied by guests or may be hired for a $12 fee.  The classrooms are within Boronia; they have good lighting and air-conditioning.  For all guests, the weekend includes all meals, morning and afternoon tea and supper from dinner on Friday evening to lunch on Sunday.  Vegetarian, gluten free and lactose free meal options are available.

The cost for students for the weekend at Boronia will be $295.  Non-members are welcome at a cost of $375.  Independent stitchers at The Retreat will pay $250.

A deposit of $100 is required to secure a place with a completed application form.   Bookings open 1 February 2017, full payment due by Friday 16 June 2017.

Embellished Fabric Necklace with Val Tomlins

This fun piece of work is a combination of simple techniques, stitches and embellishments. You will create an eye-catching necklace by stitching each element separately using felt pieces, fabric and beads. The individual pieces are then assembled as shown or can be arranged in your own unique way.
Materials for this workshop will be available in a kit containing felt, fabric, beads, sequins, gimp and other beads. The patterns will also be provided.

Pashtun Embroidery Workshop with Alison Snepp

The Pashtun people of Afghanistan work Pashtun embroidery. The women love the shine of gold and silver and make little purses in which to keep makeup or perhaps a watch or some jewellery. It is metal thread embroidery that often includes mirrors and characteristic turquoise blue beaded trim.
Students attending the workshop will make a small purse ( approximately 11cm square when folded up) using the traditional metal thread couching style of this type of embroidery. Alison provides a kit containing the fabric (including the lining), prepared metal thread and mirrors used for the embroidery.
Students do not need experience of metal thread embroidery for this workshop, which is suitable for all levels of embroiderer.
