Our Mission

We are Design Divas! As artists steeped in our origin story of embroidery, we aim to promote, develop, and challenge the boundaries of contemporary stitch and design. We enhance and expand our ideas, work and practice by using materials that include but are not limited to textile and fibre.

* We inspire each other

* We thrive on our friendship

* We nurture our creative abilities

* We love innovation and change, while respecting tradition and history

* We offer each other mutual support as we engage in our own creative practices.

Design Divas was formed in March 2021 by a group of twelve Contemporary Stitch and Design (CS&D) students who were enrolled in the 2019-21 CS&D Program. As we approached the end of our Course, we wanted to continue our mutually  supportive association, as we worked on our own projects.

We decided from the outset that we wanted to exhibit as a group every two years, starting with an exhibition in Gallery76 in October 2023 with the theme 'The Sum of Us'. In preparation for this, we each prepared one or more pieces of work in  response to the theme “Moving Forward” for a smaller exhibition, which was on display in Gallery 6 at the Guild during  October 2022. Since creating the group in March 2021, two of the original members have left and been replaced by two graduates of the first cohort of the CS&D Program (2017-18).

Our Meetings

We meet monthly at Guild HQ on the third Sunday of the month between February and October each year. Our meetings can include: a business component when we work through issues associated with upcoming group activities; a workshop run by a member of the group or a guest tutor; ‘show and tell’ when we support each other through design and technique challenges, as we work on exhibition pieces; and excursions to galleries.

Membership of the group is closed until after our exhibition in October 2023. After that the group will decide whether to offer membership to other Guild members who have completed the CS&D program or equivalent.

Our recent exhibition has just finished at the Guild in November 2023.
