Background
Maureen Hazlewood tutors in Creative Embroidery, especially Embroidery on Canvas, but also enjoys the diversity of embroidery by stitching in a number of techniques. She believes being a creative stitcher does not mean “anything goes”, adding bits need to be part of the design concept, blending in and not just added “tat”.

Her work process begins with drawing sessions enabling her to find new ways to interpret composition and structure. She loves colour, movement and pattern, abstracting and merging traditional stitching with new ideas, exploring how threads, fibres, fabric can create new surfaces and textures.

Her inspiration can come from paint artists such as Hundertwasser and Kandinsky, symbolic influences or the world of nature.
